Veins and Treatments
What are varicose and spider veins?
Signs and symptoms of varicose veins are legs that are tired or itchy, achy, swollen or discolored. Also included in the list are leg sores, bulging veins, cramping or throbbing.
Varicose veins are veins that have expanded, causing unsightly bulges in the legs. Normal, properly working veins move the blood in your legs in one direction using one-way valves. In varicose veins, these one-way valves cease to function, causing the blood to take the path of least resistance. When the valves break and the blood pools, the ending result is a bulging varicose vein.
Spider veins are dilated capillaries but are also classified as a milder form of varicose veins. While everyone can get spider veins, some conditions may make you more likely to get them: people who stand on their feet for long periods of time, such as hairdressers and teachers; women who use birth control; people who wear tight undergarments around the waist; and people with hormonal conditions.
Your first appointment with Dr. Loges will be an assessment of your legs and a discussion of how we determine the most appropriate treatment option for you with the goal being to maximize your results. All treatments – large and small – are performed by Dr. Loges himself.
ClosureFast Radiofrequency Ablation
Medtronic's ClosureFast Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is the next generation in venous treatment. Doctor Loges was the first in our area to use this technology. By inserting the ClosureFast catheter into the targeted vein and heating the vein to induce closure, patients will experience quick relief of varicose veins. RFA offers consistent and effective treatment of varicose veins by delivering temperature-controlled energy to the areas you need it most.
“I am a patient of Dr. Loges at The Vein Center. I am currently undergoing the ClosureFast Radio Frequency Ablation (Venefit) treatment for 4 veins (2 in each leg). I had the laser procedure done on my right leg several years ago and found it unpleasant and uncomfortable. So much so that I did not return for treatment of the left leg despite the fact that my insurance had approved it. The ClosureFast Rado Frequency Ablation (Venefit) is SO much easier to tolerate. At first, I was apprehensive about it because of my prior laser experience. Now with 2 veins done and 2 more to go, I am no longer nervous. I am so pleased that there is a choice of procedures in our area at The Vein Center. I am very satisfied with Dr. Loges and his staff and look forward to completing my treatments.”

VenaSeal Closure System
VenaSeal is the newest, innovative treatment for varicose and spider veins. Minimally invasive, the VenaSeal Closure System uses a small needle to insert the dispensing unit that delivers the VenaSeal adhesive in stages, which is coupled with external compression. Depending on the length of the varicosed vein, it takes about an hour to complete the procedure. Patients can to walk out of the appointment on their own with just a bandage. There is no need for compression stockings before or after VenaSeal! Watch the video, to see exactly how this new system works!
Sclerotherapy, the veteran of all vein treatments, is an injected therapy that shows results in three to six weeks. We use a sclerosing agent to irritate and collapse the vein. There is little to no discomfort with maximum results.
Vascular and Varicose Vein Screening
Sometimes people who have a potentially threatening vascular disease may not be aware of its presence because warning symptoms have not yet developed. At The Vein Center and Medspa, we screen as a method of detecting the presence of these serious vascular problems before they have the chance to cause harm. Catching vascular disease early can prevent a stroke, an aneurysm, Peripheral Vascular Disease (PAD), and Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). If left untreated, more serious problems can develop, like blood clots, bleeding, inflammation, and skin ulcers.
At The Vein Center and Medspa, we use state-of-the-art Doppler color flow ultrasound technology to offer four types of screenings. These non-invasive, painless screenings detect problems before they become debilitating vascular conditions. Call us to schedule your screening today!
